Hopefully Glow is better since there won't be any more Midas and it can concentrate more on Rip and the other side characters, but there is still the issue with the queen. And fine, let's say that's understandable because of her flaws that stem from her experiences - then Slade should have been the better person. She would be just transferring her love and security from her abuser to another man that she doesn't know that much about.

In the last book, Auren was just starting to realize who she was and that she deserved better, and she had started to develop budding feelings for the man who made her realize that worth. I told myself I’d pace out this series, because the last 2 are big books and I have my final essay and report due around now but…. Meanwhile, in Sixth Kingdom, Malina tries to outsmart Midas in his absence and turns the people and nobles against him so she will be recognized as the true ruler of Highbell. it makes the stakes feel much higher because i never knew how they were going to interact with each other or how the situation would play out. She's struggling with Midas, with not knowing whether or not she can trust Slade after everything that happened to her, she feels betrayed and used by everyone.I wish they would have just stayed separate people - it makes for more depth for her to have faced multiple enemies in her life anyway. I love it when the characters look like they could kill you, will actually kill you, but are also cinnamon rolls. Locking her up in the dungeon, drugging her, or threatening her (with personal harm or harm of someone she loves).

We all expected a relationship to develop and for there to be romance, but again, this girl is just coming out of a manipulative relationship, is having feelings for another man (who shows her a different face when they're alone, which she questions), and then just says f*ck that, I'll jump his bones? Ich habe das Gefühl, Auren zu kennen - Auren, eine großartige Protagonistin: mutig, stark und selbstbestimmt.I mean yeah, I could care less about Queen Malina's chapters but I think can see where this is all going and I'm intrigued to say the least. Much of this book revolves around them working to figure out their relationship from there, and I liked that because I didn't want to see her jump into another relationship without questioning some important things, to make sure she is protecting herself and importantly developing a sense of self away from a relationship. It did not seem like the same writing or the same characters and felt completely out of left field for me. I feel like I know those characters, and reading Auren's POV makes me relate to her, feel for her, root for her, hurt for her - everything.

Not that I expect the author to suddenly make Slade the bad guy, but come on girl - did you learn nothing? so far, the H is all bark and no bite, bUT damn THAT WAS ONE OF THE BEST DISPLAYS OF ✨CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT✨ I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A HEROINE. Rip has gotten beneath her skin, and she's no longer content living life behind in a cage, even if the bars are plated in gold. I want all of you,” he tells me, a newfound hunger in the depths of his green eyes that stirs heat beneath my skin. I fell in love with his kindness and fiercely protective side, and the sexual tension mixed with the angst between Auren and him was delightful.

So her independence felt contrived - it was all just filler (during which she literally achieved nothing) until she fell in his arms and looked to him to be her savior. Auren humiliates Midas and doesn’t obey him so he gets angry and makes Ravinger’s Commander carry Auren to the harp to play all night. If you fail to comply with this obligation, we may have a right of action against you for compensation. I love it when a totally fantasy genre with magic and powers is written with such good characters that they feel real and you could actually believe this is happening.
