For nearly three decades, vampires have waged war against humanity; building their eternal empire even as they tear down our own. It, in some ways, has that "middle book" syndrome in the sense that it can be a tad aimless at times, but it's never BORING.

You still get all the juicy character interactions you have come to want from the series, but again, Empire of the damned follows a more old-school story structure and is setting up a considerable conclusion. He learns that there are four vampire bloodlines (Ilon, Chastain, Dyvok and Voss); each possesses a unique ability or 'bloodgift', but he has none, making him a "frailblood. The tale sweeps into the second wave of the story right where we left off with the same addicting and rich storytelling.

But, I thought quietly and in my own space, Empire of the Vampire would be something I would enjoy privately without the promoting it to others. We get perspectives from both the vampire historian Jean-François, as well as from Gabriel’s undead sister Celene and this is where the narrative format of telling a story within a story really shines. I mentioned at the beginning of this review that I experienced both hell and heaven reading this book.

Though I doubt that Jay Kristoff and his million copies sold will truly care at the end of the day what I have to say about it.In hindsight I can see where you’re coming from – the homophobia to me read like a scathing commentary on the religious opinion of it – if you finished the book you’ll see that baptiste and Aaron did get a happily ever after (for now at least) and Gabe was happy for them. This book focuses first and foremost on the complicated and twisted world of the Vampire threat, Particularly how it has affected enslaved Thralls. I also didn’t like the way Kristoff had been speaking to others online, and decided that promotion wouldn’t be appropriate, despite being vocal about The Nevernight Chronicles in the past.

All hope lies with the last remaining silversaint, Gabriel de León, awaiting execution for the murder of the vampire emperor. We ask all users help us create a welcoming environment by reporting posts/comments that do not follow the subreddit rules.

Gabriel escaped murder from his brethren among the Ordo Argent after rescuing Dior from becoming Sister Chloe’s sacrifice in an ancient ritual intended to end daysdeath. This interview format, perhaps a nod to Anne Rice’s Interview With A Vampire, allows Kristoff to construct the plot perfectly, maintaining tension and anticipation of answers until late in the game. Imprisoned by the very monsters he vowed to destroy, the last silversaint is forced to tell his story. With the exception that Empire of the Vampire is much more accessible than The Ruin of Kings, of course.
